The British-Australian ACT therapist Russ Harris, author of the book “The Happiness Trap”, (2007), came to Helsinki this week to run a workshop on Trauma Focused ACT. ACT stands for “Acceptance and Commitment Therapy”, a process based therapy with an emphasis on the present moment, being open to feelings and values-based action.

Many of the Compass Psychology team attended the workshop together to learn about ways to use ACT therapy for trauma work. Some good techniques we learnt included anchoring, the vagus nerve response to threats and healing from trauma. We did many excellent exercises and watched videos and live demonstrations of the techniques.
Thank you to ACBS Suomi ry for organising the event, and to Russ Harris for coming to Helsinki to deliver this excellent workshop! For more information about ACT and Russ Harris, you can visit his webpage at https://www.actmindfully.com.au/
