I am an Australian-trained Clinical Psychologist and the Director of Compass Psychology. I have a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the University of Melbourne (2011) and endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist in Australia, and I am a Valvira-registered Psychologist and Cognitive Psychotherapist in Finland.

After graduation, I worked for Melbourne Health in hospital and community health settings, as well as in various private practices in the city. Since 2017, I have been working as a psychologist in Finland, serving both local residents and migrants from the international community.

I enjoy working with clients who have a variety of cultural backgrounds, partly due to the diversity of my own country’s migrant population, but also because I also have a lot of personal experience with different cultures. As a child of expatriates, I lived in Europe, the Middle East and Asia and attended international schools, and as an adult I have lived in China, Australia and Finland.

I am certified to provide rehabilitative psychotherapy for clients with the KELA/FPA subsidy.

My Therapeutic Approach: Collaborative and Active

In therapy sessions with clients I aim to be collaborative, warm, respectful and active within a welcoming, safe and supportive environment. I work hard with each client to fully understand the reasons that they are seeking therapy, so that I can offer the most suitable, evidence-based treatments for their presenting issues. The main psychotherapeutic methods that I use are CBT and CBT-based therapies such as Schema Therapy and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), as well as motivational interviewing, Compassion Focused Therapy, EMDR and See-Far Therapy.

After the best therapeutic methods for the client are determined, we will work together to treat core issues, reduce unwanted symptoms and behaviours and to increase self-knowledge. I often use different psychological assessment tools in addition to seeking client feedback on their progress to assess the effectiveness of the therapeutic methods we are using.

I work with teenage, adult and older adult clients for short-term or long-term therapy, or clients may come to me for advice or psychoeducation on a particular issue for just one or two consultation sessions. I have specialist knowledge in treating clients aged 65 years and older.

My areas of interest include existential therapy and Schema therapy (how childhood experiences influence patterns of thinking and behaviour in adulthood), and I am also a trained and licensed as an EMDR Therapist.

I am comfortable with seeing clients who may have psychotic symptoms, severe mood-disorder symptoms, or dissociation and trauma symptoms.

My Skills and Qualifications

I have a Masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of Melbourne, Australia. I am a registered psychologist and psychotherapist in Finland and the Psychology Board of Australia. In Finland, I have received regular individual supervision for my psychological work from a registered psychologist and psychotherapist since 2017, and I have also attended 2 hours of peer supervision every month since 2017.

In addition to supervision, I attend and present at weekly professional development workshops in Compass Psychology on a variety of topics to improve my professionalism and skills on an ongoing basis.
