Peter Foley is a trainee psychologist currently completing an internship at Compass Psychology. He began his training at the University of Amsterdam and is currently completing an MSc in Clinical Psychology at Leiden University.
Peter’s training has primarily focused on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). He incorporates CBT techniques into structured sessions to help clients understand better the challenges they are facing.
Peter comes from Ireland and before pursuing a career in psychology and psychotherapy he first completed a BSc in Nanoscience (Physics and Chemistry) at Trinity College Dublin. He subsequently worked as a mathematics teacher at The Teresian School in Dublin. Alongside his academic and teaching career, he has worked as a piano teacher for over twelve years, providing one-to-one instruction to students of all ages and backgrounds. His experience of working with individuals and groups has strengthened his communication and interpersonal skills, which he bringsinto his clinical work through a collaborative and client-centred approach.
Peter has learned Dutch to a high level and is able to communicate comfortably. While he does not yet conduct full therapy sessions in the language, some Dutch-speaking clients may find it reassuring to know that he can engage in conversation and understand ideas as they are expressed.
